Day #19 “Judge NOT!” Colossians 2:16-17

16 So don't let anyone condemn (judge) you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. 17 For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality.

Message Version: So don’t put up with anyone pressuring you in details of diet, worship services, or holy days. All those things are mere shadows cast before what was to come; the substance is Christ.

  • Judge not lest ye be judged.
  • Mercy Triumphs over judgement.
  • Forgive one another and Jesus forgives us.
  • Don’t inflict, impose, or push your convictions on others.
  • Different denominations-different worship styles.
  • Just because Jesus has convicted you of a sin in your life, does not mean that is the same sin being dealt with in your sister; God deals with each of us differently and in His time frame, not ours. Pray for others.
  • Once you know Jesus as your personal Savior, don’t get under bondage or back under the law of the old testament. We are under grace not law; (grace is not a license to sin) although we all know we need to obey laws and abide by rules, but not in with an attitude of bondage and legalism, but mercy.
  • God set laws in motion in the old testament, before we had Jesus to help keep order, thank God for Jesus and GRACE!

Day #18 “All Charges have been canceled” Col. 2:14-15

Day #18

“All Charges have been canceled”

Colossians 2:14-15

14 He canceled the record of the charges against us and took it away by nailing it to the cross. 15 In this way, he disarmed the spiritual rulers and authorities. He shamed them publicly by his victory over them on the cross.

  • Jesus canceled, wiped out, demolished, all our sins and charges satan brought against us.
  • Jesus died on the cross to wipe out all our sins, past, present, future.
  • Jesus disarmed and beat the devil and sent him to hell where he belongs along with all his evil angels.
  • Jesus publicly put to shame satan.
  • Jesus gives us victory because of what He did on the cross.
  • Thank You Jesus!!!!!! Words can’t fill all the pages on earth, about the price you paid for my sins. I am heaven bound

If you have time,  look up some of these words today:

Day #18 “Come on in, the water is Crystal Clear Now” Col. 2:11-13

Day #18

“Come on in, the water is Crystal Clear Now”

Colossians 2:11-13

11 When you came to Christ, you were "circumcised," but not by a physical procedure. Christ performed a spiritual circumcision—the cutting away of your sinful nature. 12 For you were buried with Christ when you were baptized. And with him you were raised to new life because you trusted the mighty power of God, who raised Christ from the dead.13 You were dead because of your sins and because your sinful nature was not yet cut away. Then God made you alive with Christ, for he forgave all our sins.

  • When we came to Jesus and received Him as our Savior, we had our hearts “circumcised of sin” the old sinful nature was cut away-removed forever; sins that were past, present and future=GRACE!
  • The cutting away, or circumcision in our lesson today, was not something that could be done by man; it was not a physical procedure, it could only be done by the death of Jesus on the cross, not by works of any man, but total faith in Jesus
  • Jesus performed a spiritual circumcision-the cutting away of our sinful nature.
  • Being buried with Christ when we were baptized, does not indicate that baptism is the actual saving of our souls. Baptism is a picture of what Jesus did for us. We accept Jesus as our Savior by faith, then as an act of obedience, we follow the commands of God’s Word and become baptized; we are fully immersed in water, and this is a type of picture of us  dying to the old self and being raised to new life in Jesus, a new cleansed person, our sins have been washed away and we are white as snow.
  • We were dead in our sins, then God made us alive with Christ and He forgave us of all our sins. Now we can see with new eyes, things become “Crystal Clear” to us. The truth will set us free.

Message Version: 11 Entering into this fullness is not something you figure out or achieve. It's not a matter of being circumcised or keeping a long list of laws. No, you're already in - insiders - not through some secretive initiation rite but rather through what Christ has already gone through for you, destroying the power of sin. 12 If it's an initiation ritual you're after, you've already been through it by submitting to baptism. Going under the water was a burial of your old life; coming up out of it was a resurrection, God raising you from the dead as he did Christ. 13 When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive - right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven

What does circumcision mean? Removal of the foreskin of the male genital organ, whether for religious reasons or as a purely hygienic measure. Circumcision was practiced in the ancient.

Paul shared throughout his ministry that, while circumcision was of great value for the old covenant, it carried no significance for the "covenants of promise" ( Eph 2:12 ). What was fundamentally important in God's sight was being a "new creation" ( Gal 6:15 ) and keeping God's commandments ( 1 Cor 7:19 ), apart from which circumcision or uncircumcision are meaningless, and allowing faith to work through love ( Gal 5:6 ).

Paul taught resolutely that, in the new covenant, salvation came by grace and faith, not works ( Eph 2:8 ). For the believer, circumcision or the lack of it was a matter of total indifference. What really counted was the faith and obedience that have always characterized covenants between God and humankind.

What does covenant mean? An agreement to do or not do a particular thing; A pact or binding agreement between two or more parties.

Day #17 “Don’t allow yourself to be captured-Be on Guard!” Col. 2:8-10

Day #17

“Don’t allow yourself to be captured-Be on Guard!”

Colossians 2:8-10

  1. Don't let anyone capture you with empty philosophies and high-sounding nonsense that come from human thinking and from the spiritual powers of this world, rather than from Christ. 9 For in Christ lives all the fullness of God in a human body. 10 So you also are complete through your union with Christ, who is the head over every ruler and authority.

Message Version: --Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and intellectual double-talk. They want to drag you off into endless arguments that never amount to anything. They spread their ideas through the empty traditions of human beings and the empty superstitions of spirit beings. But that’s not the way of Christ. Everything of God gets expressed in him, so you can see and hear him clearly. You don’t need a telescope, a microscope, or a horoscope to realize the fullness of Christ, and the emptiness of the universe without him. When you come to him, that fullness comes together for you, too. His power extends over everything.

  • Watch out for people who try to dazzle you with big words and double-talk.
  • Don’t argue religion- speak with grace, humility, and Gods love.
  • Beware of false teachers and preachers-they spread their ideas from their own human intellect; it is not coming from the wisdom and knowledge of the one and only true God.
  • Stay away from horoscopes and readers.
  • When you become a Christian you have all you need; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit indwells you, and as you draw near to Jesus, He will draw near to you; He will keep you from satans tricks, lies, and deceivers.
  • You will know in your spirit when you see or hear something that “appears or sounds godly” but IS NOT!

Commentary Notes:-Matthew Henry- The apostle cautions the Colossians against deceivers (Colossians 2:4): And this I say lest any man beguile you with enticing words and Colossians 2:8Lest any man spoil you. He insists so much upon the perfection of Christ and the gospel revelation, to preserve them from the ensnaring insinuations of those who would corrupt their principles.

Note, 1. The way in which Satan spoils souls is by beguiling them. He deceives them, and by this means slays them. He is the old serpent who beguiled Eve through his subtlety, 2 Corinthians 11:3. He could not ruin us if he did not cheat us and he could not cheat us but by our own fault and folly. 2. Satan's agents, who aim to spoil them, beguile them with enticing words. See the danger of enticing word how many are ruined by the flattery of those who lie in wait to deceive, and by the false disguises and fair appearances of evil principles and wicked practices. By good words, and fair speeches, they deceive the hearts of the simple, Romans 16:18. "You ought to stand upon your guard against enticing words, and be aware and afraid of those who would entice you to any evil for that which they aim at is to spoil you." If sinners entice thee, consent thou not, Proverbs 1:10

Day #16 “Deep Roots” Colossians 2:6-7

Day #16

“Deep Roots”

Colossians 2:6-7

6 And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. 7 Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.

  • Do you know Jesus as your personal Savior? You can – Let’s look at some verses that would be help you or someone you’ve been praying for, to become a child of God:

Romans 1:16 “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ, for it is the power of God to salvation for everyone who believes, for the Jew first and also for the Greek.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.”

Romans 10:9-10 “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Second Corinthians 5:21 “For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.”

Acts 16:30b-31 “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?” So, they said, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved, you and your household.”

Acts 4:12 “Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.”

John 3:16John3:3, Romans 6:23, 2 Cor 6:2 are great ones to commit to memory so that when someone asks you “What must I do to be saved?”  you can tell them, “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31)

God said in Isaiah 55:11 “My word that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it”     I love this verse, it motivates me to keep on shakin salt and sowing seeds - ministering to women, via the cards, crafts, and teaching lessons on our websites (www.saltshakinsister.simplesite.com and www.saltshakinsister-barbarachapmond.com)    We just need to be faithful and do our part, and the Holy Spirit of God will do the rest.

  • Now continue to follow Jesus by obeying the Word of God.
  • Let your roots grow down into Him – growth takes time! Start today, set aside some time for Jesus, be still and get to know Him through prayer and bible study.
  • Let your life be built upon the Rock-Jesus.
  • Your faith will become strong in all His truths and wisdom.
  • Doing all the above will give you a heart that overflows with thankfulness.

Day #15 “Hear my Heart Today” Colossians 2:1-5

Day #15

“Hear my Heart Today”

Colossians 2:1-5

I want you to know how much I have agonized for you and for the church at Laodicea, and for many other believers who have never met me personally. 2. I want them to be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love. I want them to have complete confidence that they understand God's mysterious plan, which is Christ himself. 3. In him lie hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.4 I am telling you this so no one will deceive you with well-crafted arguments. 5 For though I am far away from you, my heart is with you. And I rejoice that you are living as you should and that your faith in Christ is strong.

In today’s study, we hear the heart of Paul and his concern and passion for the church in Laodicea, let’s see how we can “apply” this to our day and time.

  • Paul agonized for the church – I can hear the heart of a pastor or teacher that has the responsibility of sharing the gospel and serving the people they minister to.
  • When God calls us to a certain ministry, He also equips and gives us determination, drive, passion and the special gifts to serve with His heart. We are driven to press on and fight the good fight regardless of the storms around us, the Holy Spirit lifts us up and keeps us going; He is the one that helps us when we are tempted to call it quits and when we get totally frustrated or burned out.
  • Be encouraged and knit together by strong ties of love; stay in fellowship with other Christians.
  • Understanding God’s mysterious plan comes from studying the Word.
  • In God, lies all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. You want to know Jesus better; the word works – work the word; apply what it says to your life.
  • When you know what the Bible says, you will know false doctrine and teachings when you hear them. Just because something “sounds” godly, does not mean it is the gospel truth- watch out, satan is a deceiver and can appear as an angel of light. John 10:10 says that he came only to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came to give us life and life more abundant.
  • My heart is with you as you read todays lesson; it’s my prayer, that God would speak to all of us and help us walk and live out what His word says to us. God’s Word has purpose and it will accomplish what He meant it to, it will not return void.
  • Rejoice and be strong in your faith in Jesus Christ, Amen.

Day #14 “Warning-Warning-Warning” Colossians 1:28-29

Day #14

“Warning-Warning-Warning”

Colossians 1:28-29

28 So we tell others about Christ, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all the wisdom God has given us. We want to present them to God, perfect in their relationship to Christ. 29 That's why I work and struggle so hard, depending on Christ's mighty power that                            works within me.

  • Tell others about your Jesus.
  • Warn others about living in the last days-Warning,Warning,Warning!
  • Point everyone to the life-giving Word of God and the way to grace and forgiveness.
  • All wisdom is found in the word.
  • Salvation is free and available for anyone ready to receive it.
  • I am working for Jesus and I have the hope I will see souls in heaven from the seeds I have planted and the salt I have shakin.
  • Work hard for Jesus-lean on the strength and power He provides.

Commentary Notes:

John Gill's Exposition -29-Whereunto I also labor,. In the word and doctrine, by preaching Christ, warning sinners of their danger, teaching them the way of salvation, and their duty; with this view, that, in the great day of account, he might bring a large number of them, and set them before Christ as the seals of his ministry, as instances of the grace of Christ, and as perfect in him:

striving according to his working, which worked in me mightily; meaning either in his prayers, earnestly entreating of God that he would succeed his labors, and bless them to the conversion of many; "and make supplication"; that is, with that effectual fervent prayer, which was powerfully wrought in him: or in his ministry, combating with many enemies, fighting the good fight of faith; not in his own strength, but through the power of Christ; which enabled him to preach the Gospel far and near, in season and out of season; which supported his outward man, and strengthened his inward man for that service, and made it effectual to the good of the souls of many: some refer this to the signs, wonders, and miracles, which Christ wrought by him, for the confirmation of the Gospel; but the other sense, which takes in both the power by which he was assisted in preaching, both in body and soul, and that which went along with his ministry to make it useful to others, is to be preferred.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

Whom we preach, warning every man - This does not mean warning of danger, but "admonishing all of the claims of the gospel to attention." Our word warn is commonly used in the sense of cautioning against danger. The Greek word here means to put in mind; to admonish; to exhort. The idea of the apostle is, that he made it his great business to bring the offers of the gospel fairly before the mind of every man. As it had the same claims on all; as it might be freely offered to all, and as it furnished the only hope of glory, he made it the object of his life to apprize every man of it, as far as he could.

And teaching every man - Paul made it his business to instruct men, as well as to exhort them. Exhortation and warning are of little use where there is not sound instruction and a careful inculcation of the truth. It is one of the duties of the ministry to instruct men in those truths of which they were before ignorant; see Matthew 28:192 Timothy 2:25.

In all wisdom - Compare the Matthew 10:16 note; Colossians 1:9 note. The meaning is, that he and his fellow-laborers endeavored to manifest true wisdom in the method in which they instructed others.  That we may present every man - When we come to appear before God; Notes, 2 Corinthians 11:2. Paul was anxious that no one to whom this gospel was preached should be lost. He believed it to be adapted to save every man; and as he expected to meet all his hearers at the bar of God, his aim was to present them made perfect by means of that gospel which he preached.

Gill's Exposition of the Entire Bible

Whom we preach,.... Under the above considerations; as the riches, the glory, and the mystery of the Gospel; as the hope set before lost sinners to lay hold upon; as the only Saviour and Redeemer, by whose righteousness believers are justified, through whose blood their sins are pardoned, by whose sacrifice and satisfaction atonement is made, and in whose person alone is acceptance with God: Christ and him crucified, and salvation by him, were the subjects of the ministry of the apostles; on this they dwelt, and it was this which was blessed for the conversion of sinners, the edification of saints, the planting of churches, and the setting up and establishing the kingdom and interest of Christ:

warning every man; of his lost state and condition by nature; of the wrath to come, and the danger he is in of it; of the terrors of the Lord, and of an awful judgment; showing sinners that they are unrighteous and unholy, that their nature is corrupt and impure, their best righteousness imperfect, and cannot justify them before God; that they stand guilty before him, and that destruction and misery are in all their ways; and therefore advise them to flee from the wrath to come, to the hope set before them in the Gospel: and teaching every man in all wisdom; not natural, but spiritual and evangelical;

Day #13 Crucify that flesh! Colossians 1:24-27

Day #13

Crucify that flesh!

Colossians 1:24-27

24 I am glad when I suffer for you in my body, for I am participating in the sufferings of Christ that continue for his body, the church. 25 God has given me the responsibility of serving his church by proclaiming his entire message to you. 26 This message was kept secret for centuries and generations past, but now it has been revealed to God's people. 27 For God wanted them to know that the riches and glory of Christ are for you Gentiles, too. And this is the secret: Christ lives in you. This gives you assurance of sharing his glory.

Today’s verses are the apostle’s personal words that were applicable to his lifetime and situations; we are going to share it in a way that will be applicable to you and I, in the time and day we live in. Let’s see what we can do to apply the word today:

  1. Seek the help of the Holy Spirit when we need to suffer in the flesh with a right attitude for Jesus.
  2. Participating with the Holy Spirit when denying the fleshy desires.
  3. Service and ministry within the body of Christ; serving in the church you attend, not being a pew potato.
  4. Taking our responsibility to serve within the body of Christ, the Church; find out what your gifts for Jesus is and jump in there and help out, there is always work that needs to be done at your church.
  5. If you have a gift to teach, talk to your pastor and start sharing the message under the authority of your church.
  6. Don’t keep the message of Jesus a secret, don’t be a closet Christian, share your faith and salvation testimony with others. The more you share your faith, and what Jesus has done for you, the easier and bolder you will get.
  7. God’s Holy Word – the Bible reveals all the wisdom, knowledge, direction, and grace we need to walk through each and every day; good days and not so good days.
  8. Thank God, the Word of God is not a secret! Shake some salt. Share the Word. Christ lives in you and gives you daily assurance – share His glory and grace.

Here are some verses to claim when needing help with that ole flesh battle!

Galatians 5:24

Now those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

Galatians 5:19-21

Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.

Ephesians 2:3

Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest.

Romans 13:14

But put on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make no provision for the flesh in regard to its lusts.

Galatians 6:12-13

Those who desire to make a good showing in the flesh try to compel you to be circumcised, simply so that they will not be persecuted for the cross of Christ. For those who are circumcised do not even keep the Law themselves, but they desire to have you circumcised so that they may boast in your flesh.

Galatians 5:17

For the flesh sets its desire against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; for these are in opposition to one another, so that you may not do the things that you please.

Romans 8:5-9

For those who are according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who are according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For the mind set on the flesh is death, but the mind set on the Spirit is life and peace, because the mind set on the flesh is hostile toward God; for it does not subject itself to the law of God, for it is not even able to do so,

Galatians 6:8

For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.

Romans 7:5

For while we were in the flesh, the sinful passions, which were aroused by the Law, were at work in the members of our body to bear fruit for death.

Day #12 “Stand Your Ground” Colossians 1:23

Day #12

“Stand Your Ground”

Colossians 1:23

Verse 1:22: He has brought you into His own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a single fault.

23 But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don't drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God's servant to proclaim it.

Continue to believe in God’s Word and the fact that we are holy and blameless, as we stand before Him; saved by GRACE, and daily growing in His wisdom and knowledge.

Stand firm in your faith in Jesus and shake some salt (share your testimony).

Don’t drift away from God’s convictions and standards for your life.

Hold on to the assurance of your salvation and what Gods Word tells you.

Gods Good News is available in many resources; The Word, The Internet, Videos, YouTube, CD’s, Women Bible Teachers, Sunday School Teachers, Pastors and more.

We are all appointed to serve Jesus with all our heart, soul, and mind, and to proclaim and share Him with everyone.

Matthew 5:13-16 – Shake some salt and be a “light” to others.

Day # 11 “Totally Faultless”

Day # 11

“Totally Faultless”

Colossians 1:21-22

(Verse 1:20: and through Him (JESUS), God reconciled everything to Himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth; Christ's blood on the cross).

21 This includes you who were once far away from God. You were His enemies, separated from Him by your evil thoughts and actions. 22 Yet now He has reconciled you to Himself through the death of Christ in His physical body. As a result, He has brought you into His own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before Him without a single fault.

Shouting Ground! Praise you Jesus! Thank You, Abba Father!  Salvation and standing blameless without a single fault! I can’t fathom this, not really. To be in Gods eyes as being faultless; with all the things, I think and say that are not faultless in my eyes nor others. WOW and WOW!

I was far away from God before I accepted Jesus as my Savior.

I was an enemy to God because of my sinful thoughts and actions.

NOW I am reconciled to Jesus because of His death on the cross.

God brought me into His presence through His Son, Jesus.

I AM holy and blameless now as I come to Jesus and God.

I am standing before God faultless, clean, white as snow, FREE from guilt and condemnations satan tries to throw at me.

Day #10 “Jesus - from the Beginning of Time”

Day #10

“Jesus -  from the Beginning of Time”

Colossians 1:18-20

18 Christ is also the head of the church, which is his body. He is the beginning, supreme over all who rise from the dead. So, he is first in everything.19 For God in all his fullness was pleased to live in Christ, 20 and through him God reconciled everything to himself. He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth; Christ's blood on the cross.

  • Jesus is the head of the church
  • The church is the body
  • Jesus is the beginning
  • Jesus is supreme over all
  • Jesus died and was risen for all sinners
  • God is Jesus in the flesh
  • God was pleased in all His fullness to live in Jesus Christ
  • Jesus shed His blood on the cross
  • The Trinity- God the Father, God the Son Jesus and God the Holy Spirit.
  • Genesis 1:26 Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be likeourselves (bfc note: plural- three-person Trinity from the beginning of time).
  • Genesis 1:27-God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female he created them.

The first Chapter of Colossians shows clear evidence that Jesus is God in the flesh. The Trinity is three persons in one Godhead; let’s look at the beginning of time, Genesis Chapter One.

Genesis 1:1-2:4 The Account of Creation

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

3 Then God said, "Let there be light," and there was light. 4 And God saw that the light was good. Then he separated the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light "day" and the darkness "night." And evening passed and morning came, marking the first day.

6 Then God said, "Let there be a space between the waters, to separate the waters of the heavens from the waters of the earth." 7 And that is what happened. God made this space to separate the waters of the earth from the waters of the heavens. 8 God called the space "sky." And evening passed and morning came, marking the second day.

9 Then God said, "Let the waters beneath the sky flow together into one place, so dry ground may appear." And that is what happened. 10 God called the dry ground "land" and the waters "seas." And God saw that it was good. 11 Then God said, "Let the land sprout with vegetation—every sort of seed-bearing plant, and trees that grow seed-bearing fruit. These seeds will then produce the kinds of plants and trees from which they came." And that is what happened.

12 The land produced vegetation—all sorts of seed-bearing plants, and trees with seed-bearing fruit. Their seeds produced plants and trees of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.13 And evening passed and morning came, marking the third day.

14 Then God said, "Let great lights appear in the sky to separate the day from the night. Let them mark off the seasons, days, and years. 15 Let these lights in the sky shine down on the earth." And that is what happened. 16 God made two great lights, the sun and the moon—the larger one to govern the day, and the smaller one to govern the night. He also made the stars. 17 God set these lights in the sky to light the earth, 18 to govern the day and night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good.19 And evening passed and morning came, marking the fourth day.

20 Then God said, "Let the waters swarm with fish and other life. Let the skies be filled with birds of every kind." 21 So God created great sea creatures and every living thing that scurries and swarms in the water, and every sort of bird—each producing offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good. 22 Then God blessed them, saying, "Be fruitful and multiply. Let the fish fill the seas, and let the birds multiply on the earth."23 And evening passed and morning came, marking the fifth day.

24 Then God said, "Let the earth produce every sort of animal, each producing offspring of the same kind—livestock, small animals that scurry along the ground, and wild animals." And that is what happened. 25 God made all sorts of wild animals, livestock, and small animals, each able to produce offspring of the same kind. And God saw that it was good.

26 Then God said, "Let us make human beings in our image, to be like ourselves            (bfc note: plural- three person Trinity from the beginning of time).                They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground."

27 So God created human beings in his own image. In the image of God, he created them; male and female he created them.

28 Then God blessed them and said, "Be fruitful and multiply. Fill the earth and govern it. Reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, and all the animals that scurry along the ground."29 Then God said, "Look! I have given you every seed-bearing plant throughout the earth and all the fruit trees for your food.

30 And I have given every green plant as food for all the wild animals, the birds in the sky, and the small animals that scurry along the ground—everything that has life." And that is what happened.31 Then God looked over all he had made, and he saw that it was very good! And evening passed and morning came, marking the sixth day.

2 So the creation of the heavens and the earth and everything in them was completed. 2 On the seventh day God had finished his work of creation, so he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and declared it holy, because it was the day when he rested from all his work of creation.  4 This is the account of the creation of the heavens and the earth.

Thank You Father, Jesus and Holy Spirit for your Word and my salvation. amen  bfc

Day #9 We now see the Godhead Trinity - Colossians 1:15-17

Day #9

We now see the Godhead Trinity

Colossians 1:15-17

15 Christ is the visible image of the invisible God. He (Jesus) existed before anything was created and is supreme over all creation, 16 for through him (Jesus), God created everything in the heavenly realms and on earth. He (God) made the things we can see and the things we can't see—such as thrones, kingdoms, rulers, and authorities in the unseen world. Everything was created through him (God and Jesus-the Trinity Godhead) and for him.17 He (God and Jesus- the Trinity Godhead) existed before anything else, and he holds all creation together.

BFC NOTES: If I am understanding the scriptures above, I see the person of “Jesus” being referenced as the person spoken of after “He and Him” in verses 15 & 16 above.  I have read, and re read these verses, and it appears to me that God is saying Jesus existed “before” anything was created AND that “through” Jesus, God created everything. Is this accurate?  YES and amen! We see here, the Trinity: Father God, Son Jesus and the Holy Spirit.

Let’s look at some commentaries which will confirm our interpreting this correctly; we need to fully grasp the bigness of this message today.

Barnes' Notes on the Bible

For by him were all things created - This is one of the reasons why he is called "the image of God," and the "first-born." He makes God known to us by his creative power, and by the same power in creation shows that he is exalted over all things as the Son of God. The phrase which is used here by the apostle is universal. He does not declare that he created all things in the spiritual kingdom of God, or that he arranged the events of the gospel dispensation, as Socinians suppose (see Crellius); but that everything was created by him. A similar form of expression occurs in John 1:3;There could not possibly be a more explicit declaration that the universe was created by Christ, than this.

And for him - For his glory; for such purposes as he designed. There was a reference to himself in the work of creation, just as, when a man builds a house, it is with reference to some important purposes which he contemplates, pertaining to himself. The universe was built by the Greater to be his own property; to be the theater on which he would accomplish his purposes, and display his perfections. Particularly the earth was made by the Son of God to be the place where he would become incarnate, and exhibit the wonders of redeeming love. There could not be a more positive declaration than this, that the universe was created by Christ; and, if so, he is divine. The work of creation is the exertion of the highest power of which we can form a conception, and is often appealed to in the Scriptures by God to prove that he is divine, in contradistinction from idols. If, therefore, this passage be understood literally, it settles the question about the divinity of Christ.

Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary

John:1-5  The plainest reason why the Son of God is called the Word, seems to be, that as our words explain our minds to others, so was the Son of God sent in order to reveal his Father's mind to the world. What the evangelist says of Christ proves that he is God. He asserts, His existence in the beginning; His coexistence with the Father. The Word was with God. All things were made by him, and not as an instrument. Without him was not anything made that was made, from the highest angel to the meanest worm. This shows how well qualified he was for the work of our redemption and salvation. The light of reason, as well as the life of sense, is derived from him, and depends upon him. This eternal Word, this true Light shines, but the darkness comprehends it not. Let us pray without ceasing, that our eyes may be opened to behold this Light, that we may walk in it; and thus, be made wise unto salvation, by faith in Jesus Christ.

Summary of our verses for today:

  • Christ is the visible image of the invisible God
  • God and Jesus existed before anything was created.
  • God and Jesus made the things we can see and the things we can’t see.
  • Everything was created through and for God and Jesus.

In the beginning was the WORD, the word was with God and the Word was God.

In the beginning was the WORD, the word was with Jesus and the Word was Jesus.

Day #8 “Benefits from Jesus” Colossians 1:10-14

Day #8

“Benefits from Jesus”

Colossians 1:10-14

10 Then the way you live will always honor and please the Lord, and your lives will produce every kind of good fruit. All the while, you will grow as you learn to know God better and better.11 We also pray that you will be strengthened with all his glorious power so you will have all the endurance and patience you need. May you be filled with joy, 12 always thanking the Father. He has enabled you to share in the inheritance that belongs to his people, who live in the light. 13 For he has rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and transferred us into the Kingdom of his dear Son, 14 who purchased our freedom and forgave our sins.

Day “8” has eight grand and glorious benefits for us:

  1. Living for Jesus always gives Him the honor and glory He justly deserves.
  2. Living for Jesus will produce every kind of good fruit in our lives and others (Fruit of the Holy Spirit Is-Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Goodness, Kindness, Faithfulness and Self-Control).
  3. Living for Jesus keeps us growing, learning, and knowing Him better and better every day.
  4. Living for Jesus will give us all the strength, endurance, and patience when we need it.
  5. Living for Jesus will fill us with joy unspeakable and full of glory.
  6. Living for Jesus gives us a thankful heart toward Him and our Heavenly Father.
  7. Living for Jesus rescued us from the kingdom of darkness and keeps us free from satans schemes and traps.
  8. Living for Jesus has given us freedom and forgiveness for all our sins.

I have to share something this morning; I am so thankful to Jesus and give Him all the glory for the favor and blessings He has bestowed upon my life. Count my blessings, name them one by one; Isn’t there a song by that name? Yes, I do believe there is and I need to share those words with you right now, then I will count my blessings and share them with you.

COUNT YOUR MANY BLESSINGS

  1. When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost,
Count your many blessings, name them one by one,
And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.

  • Count your blessings, name them one by one,
Count your blessings, see what God has done!
Count your blessings, name them one by one,
*Count your many blessings, see what God has done.
[*And it will surprise you what the Lord has done
    .
  1. Are you ever burdened with a load of care?
Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear?
Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly,
And you will keep singing as the days go by.
  2. When you look at others with their lands and gold,
    Think that Christ has promised you His wealth untold;
Count your many blessings—*money cannot buy [*wealth can never buy]
Your reward in heaven, nor your home on high.
  3. So, amid the conflict whether great or small,
    Do not be discouraged, God is over all;
Count your many blessings, angels will attend,
Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.

Counting My Blessings, naming them one by one (I think I will only have time for a few, I will run out of time and paper before I can count all of them, THANK YOU JESUS)!!!:

Recently we had a major wind storm that destroyed our metal carport and thousands of $ damage to my husband’s truck along with some hail damage to the house. God will test your faith when things like this happen. We can moan and groan or stand on the faith and trust that Jesus will make it all come out for our good.

This is NOT easy, but it can be done when you know the Word of God and you stay in touch with Jesus and “Fight the good Fight”; “Cast down every vain imagination and take every thought captive to the obedience of Jesus Christ”; “No weapon formed against me shall prosper”.  I have been hearing several verses in my soul the last two days, some I have not even read for a long time. In addition to some of the verses the Holy Spirit has brought to my memory, I hear songs of praise when I awake in the morning and throughout the day, now that’s a BLESSING in and of itself!

Yesterday while sitting still and being quiet and praying, the Holy Spirit brought to my heart the verse: “No weapon formed against me shall prosper”. How many times have you heard that verse? How many times have you quoted that verse? I have heard it hundreds of times and said it probably, almost just as much during my Christian walk.

The morning when this verse came to my heart, I heard something so profound yet so simple, something I have never heard before. “No weapon formed against me” -the weapon formed against me (Wayne and I) was the windstorm satan sent our way along with the damages done to property. Satan meant harm and discouragement to our spirits.

The later portion of the scripture; “shall prosper” spoke to me, that I will prosper, I will come out ahead and be blessed in the end. God will get all the glory, and that is what I give to Him this very day. Later that day the insurance company called and gave us a final number for repairing all the damages.

Thank God we had good insurance.

Thank God for my job and health, so I can pay for the insurance.

Thank God for the favor of those involved in all the transactions to get everything repaired.

Thank God for coming out AHEAD and even better off than before the storm.

Thank God we get a new carport.

Thank God Wayne’s truck was fixed and got a complete NEW PAINT JOB and it is in better shape now than before the storm.

Thank God we are getting our roof repaired and the entire house repainted.

I give God all the glory and thank Him for the weapon satan tried to use for bad and harm that God turned it around and we shall prosper, have prospered! Amen and Amen.

Colossions - "Day 7" 10 Ways

Day #7

“10 Ways”

Colossians 1:6-9

This same Good News that came to you is going out all over the world. It is bearing fruit everywhere by changing lives, just as it changed your lives from the day you first heard and understood the truth about God's wonderful grace.

You learned about the Good News from Epaphras, our beloved co-worker. He is Christ's faithful servant, and he is helping us on your behalf. 8 He has told us about the love for others that the Holy Spirit has given you.9 So we have not stopped praying for you since we first heard about you.

We ask God to give you complete knowledge of his will and to give you      spiritual wisdom and understanding.

This is going to be a GOOD lesson!! A lot of yummy food to feast upon – let’s dive in and feast upon the Word and see what the Holy Spirit wants to help us with; Father let us “apply” our learning to our lives and be what and who you called us to be, amen.

  • Good News –  Jesus and His Holy Spirit will show me how I am supposed to be spreading His Word all over the world. (Salt Shakin Sister Outreach-The Vintage Encouragement Room)
  • Bearing fruit “everywhere” = changing lives. What exactly does bearing fruit mean? I think a brief explanation for this comes from one scripture: Galatians 5:23 – For the fruit of the Spirit is: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Goodness, Kindness, Faithfulness and Self Control. If we ask Jesus to fill us with these characteristics every day, it will and can change us and others.
  • My life was changed when I first heard the truth of Jesus Christ. I once was lost, but now am found, was blind, but now I see; saved by grace, kept by grace, and walking by grace. GRACE! My desires and thinking about things have and will continue to change.
  •  I received God’s Grace and started understanding His Word after I received Jesus as my Savior. Before I was saved, I didn’t enjoy reading God’s Word like I do now, it was like reading a novel about someone else’s life, it did not speak to my heart in a personal way, as it does now.
  • I am ever “learning” how to be a Christ like follower. It’s a “Process” – it takes time to learn how I should follow Jesus and obey His commands.
  • The Holy Spirit is always helping me and working on my behalf.
  • The Holy Spirit fills me with fresh love each day, when I take time to be still and listen to Him.
  • I will continue to pray for others that Jesus has laid on my heart.
  • I will expect to receive Gods knowledge, spiritual wisdom, understanding and direction as to what His will / plan for my life is. This is so cool! There are so many times that the Holy Spirit will just “drop” a thought or answer into my heart; when I act upon it, I find it to be the answer I needed and it helps me complete something I am working on.
  • In Him all things are possible – show me your way Lord Jesus – amen and amen.
  •

Day #6 -Prayer and Thankfulness

Paul's Thanksgiving and Prayer – Colossians 1:3-5

3 We always pray for you, and we give thanks to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. 4 For we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and your love for all of God's people, 5 which come from your confident hope of what God has reserved for you in heaven. You have had this expectation ever since you first heard the truth of the Good News.

Day #6

  •   Do you know of anyone that is or has been praying for you? If so, who is it and how long have they been praying for you?
  •   Can you give thanks to God for your life, even in the midst of the good or bad days you may be having?
  •   Do you have a personal relationship (Faith in Christ Jesus) with Jesus? Yes
  •   What does love  really mean, and how is your "love walk"?
  •   Do you have confidence and hope, that when you die, you will enter Heaven? If your answer is yes - then you and I have the expectation since we first heard the truth about Jesus. We received this when we asked Him to come into our hearts and save us. Eternal Life awaits us!
  • ****************************************************************  Do you know of anyone that is or has been praying for you? If so, who is it and how long have they been praying for you? I know that my husband prays for me every day, even though, honestly I don't think about him doing it. I believe, between his prayers, my parents prayers (and mine), my days are a lot safer on the highways and byways to and from Hondo Texas and San Antonio. I know I  have a few friends that are faithful to pray for me, but I really don't have a large number of people praying for me.
  • If you happen to be one of the less fortunate souls that feels left out and not prayed for, don't despair, if you are saved Jesus is praying for you and watching over you every day. The bible tells us, we  have to encourage ourselves; we can't depend on others prayers as much as we can our own. We have to have our own personal conversations / prayers with Jesus. The bible also tells us he sends  ministering angels to us. I don't leave my home  in the morning without first asking Jesus to send His ministering angels all around my home, car, family and associates.
  • Can you give thanks to God for your life, even in the midst of the good or bad days you may be having?
  • Yes I can, and I am ever so thankful that God's grace has been bountiful to me and I don't take this grand and healthy season of my life for granted!! I do my best to wake up each new day with praise and thanks on my lips and in my heart. Yes, I have my days just like you, when I am not so chipper and full of enthusiasm and joy for my Jesus , I do my best to have an attitude of praise and thankfulness IN all circumstances; I'm certainly not thankful FOR a lot of things that may come my way. Oftentimes, I just flat need God to give me an attitude adjustment! Amen and Amen!
  • What does love really mean, and how is your "love walk"? Let's look it up.
  • What does love really mean, and how is your "love walk"? Let's look it up. The most spectacular, indescribable, deep euphoric feeling for someone.  Fondness, tenderness, worship, passion, adore, and charity. But what does love really mean when the Emotions are not warm and fuzzy???? What does the biblical "agape love" mean?.
  • Agape Love

  • This is the Greek word for love at its ultimate.  Agape love is not like a brotherly love or a love between a husband and a wife. It is the most self-sacrificing love that there is.  This type of love is the love that God has for His own children. This type of love is what was displayed on the cross by Jesus Christ.  In John 3:16 it is written that “God so loved (agapao) the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life.”   Agape love is that which is always associated with the love of God and rarely does it occur when it involves one person in relations with another.  The Greek word agape was hardly ever used in Greek-speaking societies but in the New Testament, it occurs 320 times.
  • Article from the internet goes like this: Love is an incredibly powerful word. When you're in love, you always want to be together, and when you're not, you're thinking about being together because you need that person and without them your life is incomplete.
  • This love is unconditional affection with no limits or conditions: completely loving someone. It's when you trust the other with your life and when you would do anything for each other. When you love someone you want nothing more than for them to be truly happy no matter what it takes because that's how much you care about them and because their needs come before your own. You hide nothing of yourself and can tell the other anything because you know they accept you just the way you are and vice versa.
  • It's when they're the last thing you think about before you go to sleep and when they're the first thing you think of when you wake up, the feeling that warms your heart and leaves you overcome by a feeling of serenity. Love involves wanting to show your affection and/or devotion to each other. It's the smile on your face you get when you're thinking about them and miss them. . If you find it, don't let it go.
  • One word frees us of all the weight and pain of life: That word is love.
  • The last part of our questions asks, "how  is our love walk"?....... I don't know what your answer looks like, but I fall way below the "agape love" that Jesus expects and commands us to walk in. Every day is  a new day, new sin, new convictions, new confessions and constant yearning and striving to love and be like Jesus, how about you? Thank you for your love and grace Jesus! bfc

Day #5- Faithful Service - how do we do this???

Day #5

How can we be faithful in service to Jesus?                                                  Faithful – what does that mean? Service, what exactly is that? Let’s look up both words today. Faithful-any loyal and steadfast following-faithful-reliable; worthy of trust-consistent with reality -a group of people who adhere to a common faith and habitually attend a given church-steadfast in affection or allegiance. -  Service-work done by one person or group that benefits another; service-an act of help or assistance. -service, religious -the act of public worship following prescribed rules.

How do these words/definitions speak to you today?  It never ceases to amaze me, how “one word” can speak such volumes. Wisdom and knowledge come from learning and studying, which can in effect, change our entire attitude towards what the day or weeks ahead may bring.

When I read the definitions for faithful, the ones that stood out to me were, loyal, steadfast AND habitually attending church. To be transparent and honest this morning is a little tough for me. I am in a place in my life where attending church faithfully has been lacking. For the past three weeks, I have not attended services because my husband has not felt well. I know that is not an excuse for not faithfully attending, as I could get ready and go alone.

It can be very easy to “justify” not going to church and even be busy at home (in my Vintage Encouragement Room for Salt Shakin Sister Ministry). I know Gods Word tells us not to forsake the assembling of ourselves together. We NEED to attend church, we NEED the fellowship, we NEED to hear what God has to say through the pastor and we NEED to obey the Word of God by our attendance.

We often hear someone say, “I don’t need to go to church, me and God have our own thing going on”. All I am going to say about that is, this won’t work! You will get into some major spiritual problems when you fall out of fellowship with other Christians; people who are also striving to be faithful and live for Jesus.

You quit going to church, then you quit reading and studying the bible, then you quit wanting to hang around other Christians because you may get under conviction about some sins that have been piling up in your life. Then you start doing things you know are sinful, things that you never would have done when you were faithfully serving Jesus. Sin creeps in and builds a wall between you and Jesus. You don’t hear that still small voice anymore; your heart is getting calloused and hard, this is not where you want to be. Sin has a price tag; do you really want to pay it?

When I looked up the definitions for the two words in our study question this this morning, I had no idea we would end up here. If you are still with us and you have not quit reading, my prayer for you is, that God’s Holy Spirit convict you and call you back into His Grace and Loving Arms of forgiveness. He’s waiting and loves you!!

Out next and final question for our study in Colossians is a perfect ending for today’s study:                                                                                                         How do we obtain God’s grace and peace? We do so by all of the above….. We ask God to help us be faithful and do service for Him, one day at a time. Growth and maturing as a Christian is a process, don’t beat yourself up when you fail; but on the other hand, remember, God’s Grace is not a license to sin because you know He will forgive you.

Our next lessons will be on the following verses, if you want to get a jump start, you can start meditating on the following verses and see what God and His Holy Spirit is going to be saying to you. See you later, bfc

Day #4 - How to know God's will for our lives

  • Day #4
  • How do we know Gods will for our lives?

I think this is a big question for a lot of us. We become a Christian/Saved Person/Born Again Person  when we confess our sins to Jesus Christ, the Son of  the living God,  and ask Jesus to forgive us of all our sins and  come into our hearts and save us.(Romans 10:9-10).

I don't beleive you will really understand or know God's will for your life  until you have spent time with Jesus in prayer and bible reading/study and put yourself under some good teaching/preaching, in a church that shares sound and biblical doctrines.

When you commit to doing these things, God will honor your faithfulness and time. It takes time to learn how to become like Jesus, its a process, just like a baby has to learn how to crawl then walk, we, in a since, have to do the same.

Don't get discouraged and don't think you have to change over night and be super saint. Don't fall into a state of condemnation when you mess up, and be careful of others putting their convictions upon you. God made us all unique and has a purpose for all of us. Being saved is a lifestyle full of ongoing changes, and we have to learn to accept the fact, there will be changes in our lives, but God will give us GRACE and strength and direction. I find obedience = blessings.

Day #3 - Sharing our Faith

DAY #3

Paul wrote to the holy people (Christians), how can we share the good news of Jesus and His grace if we don’t do so in a written manner?       (bfc) This is a perfect day and time for me to be able to answer this one JJ. If anyone knows me, they know I have a passion to share Gods Word, via the bible studies through YouTube, and my cards and crafts.

God has provided a small room at my home, “The Vintage Encouragement Room” for creating and working on crafts and bible studies. This room idea started in October 2016 and keeps growing; it has evolved into more of an outreach than I had ever dreamed of! Each day God directs me with new ideas and ways to share, promote, plan and grow.

The room has gone from a creation space, to a small Christian Gift Shop – It is a work in progress just like I am. Last week was one of those weeks where the Holy Spirit was helping me with new ideas on how to make better signage, so people know what this is all about.

That may sound simplistic (crazy) or not real to some of you, but God does speak to us and He is the one that gives us ideas and dreams and visions for His Glory; my mind goes all the time.  God and His Holy Spirit really speaks to me with ideas when I am driving to and from work. Sometimes I get new ideas and can’t wait to get home and implement them! Thank God, my husband is supportive of all this, he doesn’t see much of me these days, I’m at work or in my little room or resting.

To make a long story shorter….. this past Saturday, The Vintage Encouragement Room-Christian Gift Shop – was open. I did not see anyone until the 9th hour you could say. At about 3:30 (we close at 4:00) I had a couple of ladies stop by. We had a good visit and they purchased a few items. Today’s question for our study was this: Paul wrote to the holy people (Christians), how can we share the good news of Jesus and His grace if we don’t do so in a written manner? I was honored to be able to do this on Saturday J!

When my visitors stopped in to shop and I was able to share Jesus with them, and in doing so, I shared my personal salvation testimony, and gave them my bible study on Jonah, AND this bible study.

It is not so much the “written” stuff I handed out, it’s the fact that, this little room was created and built to share Jesus and that is what I was able do. It is more important for me to share Jesus than to make money on the creations.

The additional blessing is, in days to come, we will be able to obtain enough income that will help us keep making creations for Jesus. Thankful to share Jesus in written form and word of mouth – visiting with others.

You may not have a room or the gift to create things, but all of us can speak to others wherever we go.  If you attend a church, that’s a good place to fellowship with other Christians, but we are commission from Gods Word, to TAKE HIS GRACE AND LOVE OUTSIDE THE CHURCH WALLS, tell others about Jesus.

Ask the Holy Spirit to give you the grace, courage and boldness to share your faith and His Grace with someone today and every day, He will do it.

Day #2 - Serving and knowing your calling for service

  • DAY #2
  • How do we know when or if we are called to serve Jesus, and in what capacity?                                                                                                                        The simplest way I can explain this is: you just know! I say, “You will know in your “knower”. You will sense it to be a strong TRUTH inside your heart and mind. It will be a constant drive, passion, unction, that gives you determination and commitment to keep going, even if your feelings tell you otherwise (when those warm fuzzies are gone).

You will sense the Holy Spirit of God, prompting you in certain directions with the faith He has put inside of you. You will receive scriptures that will jump off the page that will confirm you are on the right track. You will have peace when everything around you may be stormy, you will know!   You will have doors open no man can shut, and find favor with those you meet daily.

You may have others try to distract you or discourage you, but you will have the fortitude to keep going forward, even when you’re not sure what that “forward direction” may be. With each step you take, you will know that God and His Holy Spirit is with you, and you learn to trust Him more and more with every step you take.

See you on next session

Day #1 -Lets Jump into Colossians

ITS TIME TO START A NEW BIBLE STUDY - IT'S BEEN TOO LONG......

COLOSSIANS BIBLE STUDY

 LIFE APPLICATION SERIES # 10

#1 - “Faithful Service”

 Colossians 1: 1-2

1 This letter is from Paul, chosen by the will of God to be an apostle of Christ Jesus, and from our brother Timothy.2 We are writing to God's holy people in the city of Colosse, who are faithful brothers and sisters in Christ. May God our Father give you grace and peace.

  • Who is the author of Colossians? Paul AND Timothy is assisting him.
  • What does chosen mean? -

Selected, picked, appointed, elected, favored, hand-picked.    (bfc-I really like these definitions even better; to know that Jesus HANDPICKED ME AND GAVE ME FAVOR- that’s something to get happy about)!!

Article from Internet:  Called, chosen and faithful- These three words actually define who the saints of God are. Each of these words denotes a different meaning, and it is important to understand what it means to be “called, chosen and faithful.”

The called-. The Church consists of those who are called (invited) by God to understand His plan, to repent of their sins and to receive His Holy Spirit. It is important to understand that one’s calling is an act of God! Only He calls (invites) someone. That is quite evident in John 6:44 when Jesus told the crowds, “No one can come to Me unless the Father who sent Me draws him.”

Paul very clearly stated the responsibilities of the called: “Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies, kindness, humility, meekness, longsuffering; bearing with one another, and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another; even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do. But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection. And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful” (Colossians 3:12-15).

The called and chosen must be faithful! They must continue to actively believe, obey and rely on God. The called and chosen will need to faithfully endure, both in good and in bad times.

(bfc-If you had any warm fuzzy feelings when you first read the definition of chosen -handpicked and favored of God – you learn very quickly, as you continue this study, there is a price to pay for being handpicked and favored. You must keep on keeping on, even when the warm fuzzies are gone and you are walking only by faith).

“Many are called, but few are chosen”- This phrase was used by Jesus after He spoke a parable in which someone was invited to a wedding but did not have on a wedding garment (Matthew 22:11-14). The lesson of the parable is that when someone is called by God, that person has a responsibility to respond to the calling and make spiritual changes in his or her life.

  • How do we know when or if we are called to serve Jesus, in what capacity?

  • Paul wrote to the holy people (Christians), how can we share the good news of Jesus and His grace if we don’t do so in a written manner?
  • How do we know Gods will for our lives?
  • How can we be faithful in service to Jesus?
  • How do we obtain God’s grace and peace?
